Getting the Most out of your Donations

Some of you may have seen fees showing up on your support account recently. I apologize that we did not explain this in advance... there were a few technical errors and clarifications to make. Let me explain now how you can get the most out of your donation.

1) Credit Card Donors. Our society loves the quick and efficient. Most donors will appreciate being able to click a simple link, put in their info, and be done. Donors love even more to set up an account to automatically donate on a regular basis and forget about it. However, efficiency comes with a price. Credit card companies make their money by charging fees to be able to use this service. When a donor gives via credit or debit card, you will see a 5% fee deducted from your support account for that convenience.

2) Bank Draft Donors. In order to reduce the fee for donations, we have added a Bank Draft choice to your online giving. Donors can choose this option online and then they may enter the information from the bottom of a check rather than a credit card. By choosing this option, you will only see a 3% fee deducted from your support account.

3) Written Check Donors. One of the cheapest options is to have donors write a check or money order and send that to Adventures In Missions, P.O. Box 534470, Atlanta, GA 30353-4470. This sends the check directly to our bank where it is deposited. The bank then sends an image of that check to our accounting department to apply toward your support. There are no fees for checks mailed this way. However, please allow 2 weeks from the date you mail the check before you expect to see it in your support account. Also please note that you cannot receive letters or any correspondence at this address. It is only for checks or money orders.

4) DynaPay Donors. This last option is to try and combine the convenient and cheap options as best as possible. By signing up for DynaPay, a donation is automatically deducted from a checking account each month with no fees. To sign up for DynaPay, request a form by emailing info@theworldrace.org. Have your donor fill out that form and return it signed with a voided check to Adventures in Missions, Attn: Accounting, 6000 Wellspring Trail, Gainesville, GA 30506. IMPORTANT: The downside of DynaPay is that the donor MUST contact us in the office to stop the automatic withdrawal when they no longer wish to keep giving. DynaPay will continue to deduct each month unless the donor directly says "Please cancel my donation now." Should your donor sign up for this option, please make sure they clearly understand that.

When speaking with donors, we recommend that you succinctly explain each giving option, allowing them to choose which option works best for them.

Systems Overhaul...

Hey friends!!!

Just letting you know that our database systems are going through a major overhaul tonight. If all goes smoothly you'll see a new, easier system coming live this week. We don't plan on losing any information, so there's nothing you should need to do. However, as with all computer fun-ness... anything is possible.

We are maintaining your folders with all of the paperwork you have sent in. You will not see these documents on your new profile page, but they are not lost. Your support account should stay the same and the info there should be unaffected.

Over the next few weeks when you access your support account or profile online, if you notice anything out of place or broken, please just drop me an email and let me know. We'll get things fixed as soon as possible.

Blessings!

Laura Jacobs

There seems to be a little bit of confusion about where we are all supposed to meet at the airport. A few of us remember that we're supposed to meet at dunkin donuts next to baggage claim. I just wanted to make sure this was right and clarify so we all get to the right place!

I can't wait to see you all!!!

In one week ALL your paperwork is due in the office. If you do not have your physical scheduled, then do that TODAY! If you have not looked into securing insurance, then do that TODAY! You cannot put this off any longer. To process all the papers and get you ready to go out is a BIG job and we NEED your paperwork!!!! You will NOT be able to go on this trip unless it is all turned in

A Call to Fasting and Prayer

A call for fasting and prayer for the next generation

Alright Squad... the time has come to re-focus our attention on the Lord. Each squad that has launched has joined together before the race to unite through fasting and prayer. We will begin the fast tomorrow, May 1st, and will break the fast togetherwhen you arrive atlaunch in Boston.

Take time today to ask God what He wants you to fast and how He wants you to fast.Maybe He wants you to do a partial fast, like one meal a day or one day a week.Pray about fasting something in which you would ultimately be denying yourself in order to get closer to the Lord. Maybe He wants you to fast from a particular activity in addition to fasting a particular meal or fasting one day a week.If you do choose to fast from an activity then I encourage you to also fast from food in some way. Scripture always talks about fasting in the context of meals. Whatever you fast make sure that it will allow you to spend extra time with the Lord in prayer.

Once you pray about this and decide on what and when you are fasting, please post in the comment section below so we can pray for one another. This is a community fast. Feel free to post your thoughts and reflections during the fast on the team blog site as well as through your personal blogs.

Fasting is a spiritual discipline and not a diet. When you fast, you do it with the purpose of getting into a closer relationship with the Lord.So no matter what the Lord asks you to give up, that time and energy that went towards feeding yourself is now dedicated entirely to being with the Lord and having Him feed you.

"If a trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?"

-1 Cor. 14:8

We are asking those who feel that God is calling this generation to serve Him,will join us in a season of prayer and fasting.

"It's the beginning of the journey for a generation to become "FULLY ALIVE" in this thing called Christianity... they must die to their false view of themselves, to their small egos, to who they think God is, and step into their identity as sons and daughters instead of slaves, fully alive to the fact that they are miracles and they do get to live the mystery of life that Paul was talking about!!

We have a huge trumpet to blow, and it's not about more entertainment or discipleship as we have done it, but a call to the model Jesus gave us: the birth, death, resurrection of ourselves and a whole generation!!!!

That's the purpose - connecting your heart to the Father. Our expectations are to see a generation become fully alive and take dominion over the earth, who wants the keys?"

- Gary Black

Notes about Fasting:

Here are some suggestions for different types of fasts for you to consider.

2.Juice fast - drink only 100% fruit juice and water.

3.Daniel Fast - only eat fruit, vegetables and whole grains (if you have never fasted before, you may need a protein supplement in this fast)

4.Fast from one meal a day or from a food group you like.

5.Fast after a certain time in the evening, like 5PM, and spend extended time with God each evening.

6.Fast from television, friends, movies. If you choose any of these, then make sure that this is time you are giving to God in prayer and consider doing this in conjunction with a partial food fast.

7.For those of you who are struggling with support... please don't fast from checking your support account.Don't obsess and worry about your support account, but we will need you to stay on top of your total in preparing to leave.:)

It's a good idea for you to find a person to keep you accountable to your commitment. Some of you need to make a commitment to spend more time with God each day, an hour or more is a great target. Giving up a lunch break or a favorite show will give you that hour when your day's schedule used to seem quite full.

Here are some reasons why we call for a fast before the start of the World Race:

If you do not already know of the power and importance of fasting, here are some very important facts:

Fasting was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testament eras. For example, Moses fasted at least two recorded forty-day periods. Jesus fasted 40 days and reminded His followers to fast, "when you fast," not if you fast.

Fasting and prayer can restore the loss of the "first love" for your Lord and result in a more intimate relationship with Christ.

Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God (Psalm 35:13; Ezra 8:21). King David said, "I humble myself through fasting."

Fasting enables the Holy Spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a transformed life.

The Holy Spirit will quicken the Word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you!

Fasting can transform your prayer life into a richer and more personal experience.

Fasting can result in a dynamic personal revival in your own life-and make you a channel of revival to others.

Fasting and prayer are the only disciplines that fulfill the requirements of II Chronicles 7:14.

-From Bill Bright's "How to Fast."See the link below.

Here are some practical guidelines:

Keep your focus on the Lord.

Stay in an attitude of prayer throughout the day. Set aside segments of time for specific prayer. Pray often.

Read Scripture often during your time of prayer and fasting. Praying is as much listening as talking. Record any insights or words from the Lord in your journal.

Drink plenty of juices and/or water as you fast.

World Racers need to be healthy at the start of the journey! For those on medication, or who have been ill, be cautious and get an OK from your doctor. Some are not able to fast because of a physical condition; they must have regular meals. The Lord may lead you to "fast" from certain food, etc. Remember, the important thing is the heart attitude, not the calorie count.

Sometimes, there may be a little dizziness, headache, or upset stomach during fasting. Remember to drink extra fluids!

When it is all said and done, may we have the testimony of Daniel, "SoI gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Himby prayer and supplications, with fasting."- Daniel 9:3

Remember to post what and how you are fasting in the comment below so we can keep one another covered in prayer. We start tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few great resources on Fasting:

Lets get Intimate...

I had this posted on my blog, but I feel this is also for us as a squad. Take it as encouragement or even motivation...this is my challenge to you, Join me!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through our week of training, the
thought of team leadership and how those persons would be chosen on
occasion sprung to mind and for some reason I did not want to have much
to do with it. I don't know, maybe it was me just not wanting any extra
responsibility than necessary and as usual just wanting to be chill,
but I soon came to realize this was God my Father placing hints of His
plan on my heart.

He spoke quite a few times with words like
authority, strength, leadership and intimacy amongst others. Towards
the end of our training period, all these words of knowledge began to
fall into place, giving me more of an insight into what He is trying to
teach and build in me.

He's teaching me a new style of leadership,
teaching what it means to lead a family and how being that leader is
entwined in deep intimacy with Him. The thing is it really applies to
just being a servant and willing to extend His passion, and that
extends to just about anything we do in His name.

So yea, lately I recognize a need for growth, to grow in the Fathers strength and authority, but through deep intimacy with Him.

So check it, how bout you join me, lets get INTIMATE with the
Father, that we may grow in His strength (power) and authority to
subdue the body, the flesh, the habits, the lies we believe, the traces
of sin that still reflects the image of the old nature that once was
us. Let us begin to grow in intimacy and likewise begin to chip away at
that old image a little piece at a time, one step at a time, letting
that light slowly but progressively burst through revealing that new
man that is anchored in Christ Jesus. That although its OK not to be
OK, its not OK to be OK ...with where we are at.(think 'bout that one)

Even as Joshua spoke out of intimacy with the Father to have the
Sun and moon be still, we also will speak out of intimacy' to the
circumstances in our lives to be still, with Truth and Authority.

Note, it will require sacrifice, in whatever form that comes, but I challenge and encourage you today, join me!

So yea, not sure if you noticed, but not quite what I started out
intending to write for a blog, but I believe this is where it needs to
be right now...so I'll leave it at that, talk soon.

"...Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: O sun,
stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon. So the sun
stood still and the moon stopped..." Joshua 9:12-13

Support Raising Blessings

I was reading Seth Barnes's blog the other day and he had some really good words on his experience with support raising. I thought I would share it with you.

"Support-raising is not something missionaries sign up to do because they like it. Become a pastor and your congregation funds your salary, become a missionary and you have no congregation.

Your choices are: find a job on the field that covers your living costs (called tent-making) or find a group of people who believe in you enough to send you out.

While I signed up to raise support somewhat reluctantly, it has been a huge blessing in my life for the following four reasons.

1. It's given me the discipline to stay in touch with a large group of friends. We're connected to and encouraged by people who really care about our ministry and us.

2. It forces me to be accountable in ways that bring health to my life. Left to my own devices, I'd probably become too independent. Ministering to my support team causes me to grow and keeps me humble.

3.It builds faith in me. I can't just take a salary check for granted; I have to look to God to provide.

4. It frees up resources for the Kingdom. Most of our supporters give because they believe in and love my family and me. They partner with us in sharing the love of Christ with a hurting world. Our efforts together help push back the tide of hopelessness."

This means that if you are flying into BOS your flight must arrive by 2 am!

expectations

Here I sit in snowy CO, snowed in pretty much for the 2nd night in a row. Somehow I made it to work this morning but it was kinda scary - I really HATE driving in snow. So here I sit on my couch, thankful that You've Got Mail is coming on TV in a couple minutes... AAH I am already rambling.

So, I have dreaded this blog because I know from hearing from past Racers that expectations are one of the hardest part of this trip. Of course we all long (and probably assume) to have a huge impact everywhere we go, and to feel really connected to each other and our ministry and ourselves, and to see incredible things... of COURSE these are sweet. But what happens if it doesn't happen?

I have been on a mission trip where my expectations were hugely not met, and one where my expectations were exceeded. Who knows what this trip will hold? What I do hope is that I can have the perspective and maturity to recognize my expectations, and to hold them with an open hand rather than a closed fist.

Rather than write the typical "I expect this trip to be good, hard, fun, sucky, amazing, etc." blog I am going to share with you some of my hopes which I journaled a couple days ago (is that ok? hope so). Enjoy......

I know sh*t will go down on our small team. I want to offer myself in my brokenness to my teammates, not my know-it-all self.

I want to confront people sooner rather than later.

I want to see Your incredible power in my brokenness!

I want to walk closely with Your Spirit and not hesitate.

I want to create lifelong friendships that are incredibly deep and honest.

I really do want to abandon(!) all else for You - all fears, doubts, hesitations, worries. Free to be me, and to grow in becoming me.

I want to be a part of numerous miraculous healings.

I want You to be #1; the Lover of my Soul I can rest in and dwell in despite circumstances.

I want to receive more of Your love than I ever have before.

I want to learn more of my giftings and stand in them.

I want to pray - a lot. And incorporate that into who Cori is; for when I come back as well.

There are just a couple... I'm sure I'll come up with more.

Overall I am excited/nervous/anxious/can't wait to leave/don't want to leave/can't believe I'm really doing this.... all of that. I am encouraged tonight after Team Abandon's first conference call (minus Erin :( ).

Stoked to be on this journey with you all!!

40% Goal In One Week

Welcome to your second support goal notification!!!

Next week you should have 40% of your support in your account to follow the milemarkers we have put into place.

Remember this is only a goal!

One of the most effective things you can do this week is call the people who you have sent a letter to. If you call someone, it shows a true interest in them as individuals - something a mass mailing or mass email cannot do. For help on calling supporters, go back to the blog Support Raising Made Easy. It has many great ideas to help you.

Listening Prayer Part 4

Misunderstandings happen all the time. We are human and don't always hear what is actually being said. One of the biggest hurdles in all relationships is communication. This includes our relationships with God.

I can't always understand what other people say when they are in the same room as me. So, how can I understand what God is trying to tell me all the time? Well, unfortunately the truth is that we can't. Sometimes we pass off our own thoughts for God's or vice versa. We won't get what God says right all the time, but you know what? That's okay! You will learn what is God and what isn't and you will get better the more you do it. Like they say, "Practice makes perfect." Use the Bible and someone who is more mature than you to figure out what is God and what is you. We need to be able to hear God and to do that we need to learn to hear his voice and distinguish it from your thought and the thoughts the devil puts into your head.

"A voice so still and small that it is easy to dismiss as being our own thought."
Seth Barnes (The Art Of Listening Prayer)

Another key item to listening prayer is letting God work through your thoughts. It's hard to hear God's voice if your thoughts are clouded with junk. We need to watch what fills our minds by following Phil. 4:8:

</wrap>"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."

Is. 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD."

Meditate on Phil. 4:8 and Is. 55:8. Think of Listening to God like you listen to anyone else.

1. Create opportunities for God to speak. Be silent and let God speak. Practice the spiritual disciplines of solitude and meditation.

2. Focus on God. Before you get started try playing some praise and worship music to focus your attention.

3. Ask God questions. What do you want to know about or from God? Just Ask Him!

4. Acknowledge God's response. Thank him for answering you and take notes.

5. Remember that sometimes you won't get a response.

Ask God these questions and wait for his response.

1. Am I letting thoughts in my mind that are not of you? What are those?

2. How can I tell the difference between my voice and yours? Help me with this.

3. Have I ever thought something was of you but it was just me? Or vice versa?

4. Is there anything you want to share with me today?

Directions to Adventures In Missions Gainesville, Georgia

From Atlanta, Hartsfield Atlanta Airport and the South:

Take the Connector (I-75/I-85) northbound until the two interstates split just north of Midtown. Though I-85 heads northeast and would appear to split off to the right, be cautioned: I-85 is a left exit and only the left three lanes will take you there safely! Stay northbound on I-85. You willl pass under the Perimeter (I-285) at Spaghetti Junction. Continue northward on I-85 until you reach exit 113, which is the beginning of I-985. Take I-985 (also a left exit) northbound for 24 miles until you reach exit 24. Exit there. Take a left at the end of the exit ramp, towards downtown Gainesville. You are on U.S. Hwy 129. It takes just under an hour from downtown to get to this point.

Continue north on Hwy 129 (you will turn right about a mile from the interstate and another right at a T in the road). You will cross over Lake Lanier at two points: the Chattahoochee River fork and the Little River fork. A few miles beyond the second bridge you will come to a traffic light. You will take a right at the light onto Nopone Road . Follow Nopone for 1 mile to Bogus Road ; turn left onto Bogus. You will see our sign about a mile in on the left hand side (but you won't see a building). Turn left into our driveway and you will come to our building.

From Greenville/Charlotte and the Eastern Seaboard:

Take I-85 southbound from Greenville/Spartanburg until you cross the Georgia state line at Hartwell Lake. Continue southward until you reach exit 137 ( Gainesville/ Jefferson). Exit there, turning right at the end of the ramp, towards Gainesville. You are on U.S. Hwy 129. Travel for about 17 miles until you cross over I-985, then follow the instructions in the second paragraph above.

From Chattanooga/Nashville and the Midwest or Appalachia:

Take I-75 (or I-24) southbound from Chattanooga until you cross the Georgia state line. Continue southward on I-75 until you reach exit 312, which is State Hwy 53. Go east on 53, being careful to stay on 53 as it goes through some small towns and makes a few turns. After going through the town of Dawsonville you will come to a major intersection with GA 400. Go north (left) on 400 to the very next traffic light and turn right on Harmony Church Rd. You will come to a stop sign a the jct. of 136 ( Price Rd. ). Turn right on 136. Travel on 136 for about 10 miles and it will end at Rt. 60. Make a right on 60 ( Thompson Br. Rd. ) and then a left at the very next light which is 283 ( Mt. Vernon Rd. ). Take 283 to the first stop sign and turn right on Jim Hood Rd. After a few miles you will come to a light - US 129. Go straight and the road becomes Nopone Rd. Go about a mile and turn left at the top of a hill on Bogus Rd. Go a mile on Bogus and you will see the sign for Adventures in Missions on the left. Turn there and follow the road to the end and you have arrived. Note: This is a 2 lane, windy road and is about 80 miles across, taking about 2 hours from the I-75 exit.

Alternate Route via interstate. Take I-75 south to I-285 and go east on I-285 to I-85. Go north on I-85 to exit 113, I-985. Take I-985 north to exit 24, US 129. You can then follow the directions above in coming from Atlanta. Note: This way is much longer mileage wise and sometimes much longer time wise, depending on the time of day and the Atlanta area traffic. But it's all interstate until you get to 129 (the last 10 miles).

Listening Prayer Part 3

As we begin week three of our Listening Prayer Bible Study I would like to ask everyone to take the time to post your thoughts as you work through the assignments. It is so helpful to all of us to get everyone on the teams perspective. I realize how busy everyone is but the rewards of spending time in this study will pay huge rewards when you getto training camp and out on the field.

Listening Prayer Bible Study Part 3

I think we are afraid to pray because we think we are going to do it wrong, say the wrong words, someone is going to criticize how we pray. But prayer is one of those things that you just can't do wrong (well unless your praying to the wrong person, then you're doing it really wrong). As Christians we are afraid to pray out loud, why? Are we afraid to talk to people? (I hope not). When I'm having a problem I want to share it, get it off my chest, let someone bare the load with me. Isn't that exactly what prayer is?

So what is the problem? Maybe we don't feel like we are getting the answers from God like we should. Or maybe we feel inadequate. It helps me to just consider prayer as talking to my dad/best friend. I think dad in the way I respect him, but I think best friend in the way I talk to him. I don't have to worry about God judging me. Besides he already knows what we did, so why should we be afraid to tell him?

So here are some suggestions to give you guidelines to how you should pray. This is not the end all answer, and it might not work for everyone but give it a shot. If it doesn't work, try something else! I don't like to be told how to pray. I know that sometimes you need some things and sometimes you need others. Personally, having guidelines doesn't help me because I get too caught up in the rules (which they are not) and can't really reach a personal point.

Initiate your conversation with questions.

"For the shepherds are stupid and do not inquire of the Lord; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flock is scattered." Jeremiah 10:21

Expect a response and wait for it.

"This is God's Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as God: 'Call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.'" Jeremiah 33:2-3 The Message

Do Not interrupt or allow distractions

" Be still and know that I am God" Psalms 46:10

Express your affection

"I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.
I live and breathe God; if things aren't going well, hear this and be happy" Psalms 31:1-2

Be honest

Repent, tell God what you want to say, don't worry about the words.

There is a thing that goes:

P- Praise

R- Repent

A- Ask

Y- Yield

Praise- expressing your adoration, worshiping God, thanking God

Repent- Asking forgiveness for sins

Ask- asking for other things for yourself and others

Yield- Listening for God's voice

So take some time in the next couple of days. Spend some time listening for God's voice. I hear best when I'm not in my normal environment, I go out in nature or to a coffee shop and have my bible and journal and just spend some time with the Lord. I suggest doing it at a time when you don't have to worry about being somewhere soon.

Mediate on a passage of scripture: Maybe one of the scriptures above speaks to you, or there is a favorite passage or just a random passage.

Take some time and follow the steps above. Comment back to this study about what you have learned/what scripture you used.

Expectations of My Mission Trip

We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I'm expecting...

"I want to hold the hand that holds the world."

This embodies all that I expect.

I expect big things from a big God.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will prepare me.

I expect the unexpected.

I know that I could never really be ready for all that is to come in the next 11 months... but I know that In these last few remaining days before we leave, God wants to do some major construction work in me.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will break me.

I expect to be broken. rebuilt. broken again.

I am arriving, not yet arrived, to the place that God wants me to be. I pray that I will not "arrive" until I go to be home with my maker, so I expect to be renewed. Over and over.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will use me.

I expect to be taught what selflessness truly means.

I expect to be a tool, an empty cistern for the Lord to fill to overflowing. I want to become a pitcher in the hands of the Messiah to pour out in which ever direction He pleases. I expect to be a part of His glorious plan.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will show me.

I expect to learn.

I am stoked beyond belief to come to a fresh understanding of who my maker is through meeting my incredible teammates, experiencing each and every colorful culture, worshipping Him in ways I never imagined, and losing more of myself each day. I expect to never view God the same way. I expect my eyes to be opened a little bit wider, and for my ears to be a little more fine-tuned to the beckoning of the Holy spirit.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will love me.

I expect to mess up.

I expect to truly need His grace, and I want to experience the depth of His love.

I want to see His love in others, to watch them be in awe of how such a mighty God could have a love so big, for each of us. I want to learn how to love better, how to love more like Him.

I want to hold the hand of the one who will grow me.

I expect never to be the same again.

I want to be stretched past the limits that I have put on myself, and I want to walk down the road that He is paving for me, speed bumps, potholes, and all- so that I will become more of the woman He has created me to be.

I want to hold the hand that holds the world.

I expect to encounter the face of God through the faces of others.

I expect to touch and be touched deeply.

I expect to become nothing, and accept that He is everything.

I expect to laugh, a lot.

I expect to cry, a lot.

I expect to build relationships that will last until we all go home to our Father.

I expect to see miracles.

I expect a movement in the hearts and lives around me.

I expect culture. Incredible people, food, atmosphere, scenery, and life.

My prayer

is for each heart

May they be softened and readied for what is to come.

The sweet love of Jesus.

<3

One of the coolest things ever is when you spend 3 hours working on a blog, and then your computer freaks out and erases it. So, this is attempt #2. BE JOYFUL IN TRIALS OF MANY KINDS! right? haha.

JOY!

Okay, so... assignment #2. My call to the mission field.

I remember my 2nd grade teacher very well. Mr. Damian Kinsella.

He always let us listen to DC Talk and I would pick poppies for him. (Unaware that this was not legal)

The assignment was to paint a mural of ourselves. I was embarrassingly excited for this project!

I got home, climbed on top of the washer and dryer, and pulled all of the puff paints down from the cabinet where my mom kept all of her art supplies.

Paintbrush in hand, pencil tucked away in my hair, and with a look that said "It's business time", I got to work.

(P.S. Flight of the Conchords, anyone?)

Anyway, I finished the picture, and on the back, we were supposed to write about what we wanted to be when we grew up. (Fortunately for me, I wasn't given this assignment a couple of years prior, because it would have looked some thing more like "I am going to be a cat when I grow up")

No. I was 7 now. I knew what I wanted.

I wanted to be a Missionary

For as long as I can remember, this has been my hearts desire. I've always wanted to live in Africa, serving alongside of the locals. This is my dream...

Thirteen years later, and that desire has grown exponentially.

Being able to be a part of Royal Servants International in 2006 has changed my life forever. Being a part of a ministry that reached it's arms wide in Ireland and London- to love others and offer help in any way was the start of something big in my life, and awakened my heart to the love of Jesus.

God gave me a heart for the homeless, and cultivated it when I was able to spend time with Surfing the Nations. I was given the chance to help them with their homeless ministry, and since then, God has enabled me to start a homeless spaghetti night ministry here in Downtown San Diego!

Going to Jamaica with The Rock Church was amazing, humbling, and eye-opening. I loved being able to teach in impoverished schools, help build and paint old school buildings, and provide free medical care to hundreds.

What a blessing to be involved in the work of our father!

...

I was sitting at home, reading my bible.

My $150 deposit was due the next day for The World Race, and I didn't have it.

I had a late fee to cover because I missed the last months rent, and my phone bill was outrageous (Thank you, my aussie friend Naithan.)

I was praying, because I knew that if God wanted me to go, He would provide. To be real, I was freaking out a little.

In walks my room mate Ashley, my best friend (pictured above).

She hands me a note from her sister Cherre, and I begin to cry as I read it. It was such an encouraging letter, and inside she had enclosed $50. Praise the Lord! This girl is trying to pay for Horizon School of Evangelism, so I know she's broke too, and she was obedient when the Lord asked her to bless me.

How amazing!

Then...

Ash: "So when my sister handed me this note to give to you, I was convicted. Last night I was given some money for my New Orleans trip, and as soon as it was given to me, I knew it wasn't for me. I fought God on it all day about what He wanted me to do with it. I felt like that part in the Sister Act when she is trying to give that nun the million dollars, and can't let go of it. But when Cherre gave me the note, God made it clear that this money was for you."

She hands me $100.

There I was, just two minutes earlier, on the verge of tears because I didn't have the deposit for my trip.

God always shows up. He always provides. His will is perfect.

$150 dollars. Dropped in like that. WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!

Since then, God has taken care of a laundry list of things in order for me to go on this mission trip. It has become very clear that He has called me, and I have no other choice or desire than to answer.

<3

Expectations of My Mission Trip

We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I'm expecting...

I have expectations of my self and expectations of the trip, I suppose they go hand in hand.

I expect to be silent so I can hear the stories of the people I meet on the trip.

To shed the Light upon everyone I meet through my actions.

To see and better understand God's beautiful creation.

To make life friends.

To step out of my comfort zone.

To become more cultured and open minded.

To see God moving and to witness His works.

To meet Jesus everywhere I go.

To deepen my faith and relationship with God.

To learn.

To get over my fear of bugs, seafood, and eating strange foods.

To get over my pride and be the woman of God that He wants me to be.

To get sick.

To be broken and humbled.

To reconcile and be reconciled.

Listening Prayer Part 2

THE ART OF LISTENING PRAYER

PART 2

Some Instruction on doing these exercises

Psalms 95:7 The Message- "Oh yes, he's our God, and we're the people he pastures, the flock he feeds. Drop everything and listen, listen as he speaks. "

My favorite way of experiencing God is feeling his presence. I absolute adorn when GOD chooses to lay his hand on me, to let me reveal in his arms. It is probably the best feeling on earth. Probably the best time this has happened was while I was an FYM in England. I was having a time of darkness and had become very frustrated with God's silence. So I decided to take a time for myself and went to Starbucks in the mall. It was loud and not anything like you would expect for God to show up. But I was just having an intense time of prayer, I find it the easiest to pray into a journal (a.k.a right what you would say out loud, or in your head, into a journal. I like it because not only do you get to save it for posterities' sake but also I am more thoughtful and I find it more meaningful. But all of a sudden I was just praying and God's presence came flooding over me, and it was totally like me and God were having a party.

So, there are so many ways to experience God.

Through Scripture :

o "All Scripture is God-breathed (inspired) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work," 2 Timothy 3: 16-17

Through Others:

o "For with the speech of lips, and with another tongue he will speak to this people." Isaiah 28:11

Through Events

o "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive." Gen. 50:20

Through Impressions

o "The evidence of the Spirit's presence is given to each person for the common good of everyone." 1 Cor. 12:7

Audibly

o "The LORD would speak to Moses personally, as a man speaks to his friend. Then Moses would come back to the camp, but his assistant, Joshua, son of Nun, stayed inside the tent." Ex. 33:11

Inwardly

o "The Spirit said: 'Go to these people and say, "You will hear clearly but never understand. You will see clearly but never comprehend." Acts 28:26

Through Visions and Dreams

o "In visions, God brought me to Israel and set me down on a very high mountain. On the south side of the mountain were some buildings that looked like those in a city." Ez. 40:2

Scripture Meditation: Spend a few minutes meditating on this scripture, figure out what God wants to say to you in it.

"11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." 1 King 19:11-12

Take some time and ask God these questions

At what times has God tried to speak to you in a still small voice and did you not hear him?

What are some ways God has spoken to you in the past?

Have you limited the ways that God wants to speak to you?

How can you better hear God's voice?

After you've done this right a comment telling us what you got out of this study and that you have done it.

IGNITION TRAINING CAMP PACKING LIST

The accommodations at training camp are somewhat primitive. Be prepared for outdoor showers. Also, be sure you are prepared for any weather - hot afternoons, cold nights, rain, sleet, snow - ANYTHING! Though you may think I'm exaggerating, one camp it started at 80 degrees and then dropped to below freezing. Be prepared! You will be properly equipped if you follow your WR packing list. Be sure you have these items:
